Three Proposed Design Concepts Revealed for Community's Input

Updated: Oct 23, 2024

Over 130 San Antonians joined Arboretum San Antonio on October 22 during two community input events held at Southside Lions Senior Center. The purpose of these events was to inform and gather feedback from our community. Local project planners, along with national design partner Sasaki, revealed three exciting and unique design concepts for our future arboretum.

Your feedback is invaluable to us. We are not asking our community to pick one design, but we are asking you, "What do you like best about each design?" so that we can create a fourth, final design that will serve as our master plan for the future.

The three unique design directions are:

  1. Community Crossroads A place of convening and connecting people to each other and to nature

  2. Wild San Antonio Dedicated to ecological restoration, education, and exploring nature

  3. The Testing Grounds Landscape laboratory serving the community for education & research

After a full year of listening to our community, we will reveal our final master plan design on May 10. Arboretum San Antonio’s master plan includes a four-phased approach to building and programming on-site. Phase Zero begins in June 2025 and is focused on a coordinated philanthropic and capital campaign. We anticipate being publicly accessible in some capacity in 2028.
