Gift will double community contributions to support “From the Ground Up” project.

Arboretum San Antonio has been awarded a $500,000 challenge grant from FirstDay Foundation, a significant investment that will accelerate the organization’s From the Ground Up project and invite the community to help unlock the full impact of the gift by December 31, 2026.
FirstDay Foundation will contribute $500,000 once Arboretum San Antonio secures an equal amount in matching funds. This opportunity effectively doubles every dollar donated, up to $500,000, toward the project.
The From the Ground Up project represents a critical phase in the development of Arboretum San Antonio, laying the physical and operational foundation for a public arboretum that advances environmental education, conservation, and equitable access to nature for the San Antonio region.
“This challenge grant is both a powerful vote of confidence and a call to action,” said Adriana Quiñones, President and CEO of Arboretum San Antonio. “FirstDay Foundation is helping us build momentum at a pivotal moment. With community support, we can unlock this full $500,000 and move the Arboretum forward faster and stronger.”
Funds raised through the challenge will support essential site infrastructure and early-phase development needed to bring Arboretum San Antonio to life as a lasting civic and environmental asset.
“We are proud to support Arboretum San Antonio through this challenge grant,” said Kevin C. Dinnin, President and CEO of FirstDay Foundation. “The From the Ground Up project is an important investment in the long-term health and vitality of the San Antonio community.”
Arboretum San Antonio must secure the full $500,000 match by December 31, 2026, to unlock the grant. Community members, foundations, and corporate partners are encouraged to participate during this matching period to maximize their impact.
